Could you describe how expanding your professional network has helped you attain success?

The learning started with the various CEBS courses I took, but it continues today because of the professional network of advisors that I can connect with.  I get to hear their perspectives, brainstorm new ideas and debate legislative changes. The BC Chapter of ISCEBS is an amazing resource to connect with advisors and participate in various webinars and in-person meetings. I’ve built a network of people that I trust and can also call my friends.

Could you share some insight about how pursuing your CEBS demonstrates that you are a lifelong learner and an expert in your profession?

The CEBS courses are always updated based on the most current legislation and today’s changing market. It’s the best way to be ahead of the curve as a benefits professional. Taking one course makes you want to take another. Soon enough, you’ll attain your CEBS designation. I’m always seeking to continue my knowledge journey. I believe when you have a passion for something, you naturally become a lifelong learner.

Could you share a story about how you applied what you learned to your work?

My career began in the insurance field with a part-time job at an insurance carrier to help me pay some bills and get through college. I loved working at the insurance carrier. I found that I enjoyed learning and working with people. Not surprisingly, I quickly made my way through various departments, learning all about insurance and deciding to specialize in group benefits. 

I worked for four different insurance companies and then became an advisor. The CEBS program provides the foundation and fundamentals of an employee benefits plan, answering the question of why things are done the way they’re done. Each course takes you further into your learning journey as you dive deeper into critical concepts. The more courses I took, the more extensive my knowledge became, which provided me with in-depth insights to support others, including teammates, clients and professional networks.

Could you describe how earning your CEBS designation has supported you in your role and professional growth?

Having my CEBS designation shows my dedication to the group benefits field. Others view it as reputable and distinguished. The CEBS designation really does set me apart from others and supports my success as an advisor year after year.
